CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – In two matches against #3 Virginia, the Monmouth University men's tennis team was defeated 4-0 on Wednesday and Thursday. The Hawks dropped four doubles matches and six singles matches, as the teams played until the Cavaliers clinched wins on both days. Monmouth drops to 2-8 on the season and will play VCU and Richmond this weekend.
NOTES
-Playing against the #9 player in the nation in Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, Nicola Pipoli fell on Wednesday by a score of 6-0, 6-4.
-Przemyslaw Filipek faced Kwiatkowski on Thursday, with the eventual score coming out to 6-2, 2-3, unfinished.
-Facing Virginia's #59 J.C. Aragone, Filipek dropped the first set 6-4, before the next set was unfinished at 2-2. Pipoli was defeated on Thursday by Aragone, 6-1, 6-4.
-Filipek teamed up with Ale Gomez Estrada on both doubles portions, falling on the first day 6-2 before the 5-2 match on Thursday was unfinished.
-Pipoli and Sergio Martinez played in #2 doubles on Wednesday, taking the 6-1 loss before falling 6-0 at #1 doubles on Thursday.
-The third ranked team in the country, Virginia improved to 14-0 on the season.
