WOMEN’S SOCCER WINS 2017 MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The No. 1 seed Monmouth University women's soccer team captured the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in convincing fashion with a 5-1 win over No. 2 Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Five different Hawks scored in the win as Monmouth repeated as MAAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions for the second consecutive year. Monmouth also earned the MAAC automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will make its fifth NCAA appearance in program history.

The Hawks scored the lone goal in the first half on a shot by Alli DeLuca that was just inside the far post in the 38th minute. The halftime advantage gave Monmouth the momentum following a dominant first half that saw the Hawks outshoot Manhattan 11-2.

It was all Monmouth from there, as it scored the next four goals to put the game out of reach. Rachelle Ross, Jazlyn Moya, Jessica Johnson and Madie Gibson provided the goals. Manhattan added a late goal to run the final total to 5-1.

- Allie Girardi was named the 2017 MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player.
- Madie Gibson, Lexie Palladino and Miranda Konstantinides were named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Gibson earned her second All-Tournament team selection and Konstantinides adds her award after being named the 2016 MAAC Tournament MVP.
- Monmouth will make its third NCAA Tournament trip since 2013 and its second consecutive.
- It is Monmouth's fifth NCAA Tournament berth in program history (2007, 2009, 2013, 2016, 2017)
- Monmouth won its seventh conference tournament title overall (NEC - 1995, 1996, 2007, 2009) and third as a member of the MAAC (2013, 2016, 2017).
- The Hawks became the first team to repeat as MAAC Champions since Loyola Maryland in 2003 and 2004.
- Monmouth is 8-2 in the MAAC Tournament since joining the conference in 2013.
- Monmouth improved its record to 52-5-3 against MAAC opponents in that time frame.
- Monmouth is 13-0-0 in 2017 when scoring the first goal of the game.
- Monmouth is unbeaten in 15 consecutive games away from home against MAAC opponents (14-0-1).
- Monmouth reached the 15-win mark for the first time since 2013.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth has scored five goals in back-to-back MAAC Championship matches.
- Madie Gibson registered her seventh goal of 2017 and scored for the fourth straight game. It was the her fifth career postseason goal and 19th goal of her career.
- Rachelle Ross' goal increased her season total to six. She has 14 points on the year, 26 career goals and 70 career points.
- Alli DeLuca and Gibson set up Ross' goal. DeLuca picked up her third assist of the season and sixth career. DeLuca also scored the first goal of the game, to give her two goals and seven points this year.
- Lexie Palladino assisted DeLuca's goal, her second assist of the season. Palladino registered five of her eight points of the season during the MAAC Tournament.
- Jessica Johnson scored her second goal of the season on a free kick and the third goal of her career.
- Jazlyn Moya netted her second goal in 2017 and the third of her career.
- Amanda Knaub made her 33rd consecutive start in goal and made one save.
- The Hawks finished with a 23-5 advantage in shots, and an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. Monmouth took five corners and did not concede one in the match.
