FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 2 (3-3-1, 1-0-0 MAAC)
Marist 1 (3-5-0, 0-1-0 MAAC)

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY –
A pair of early goals by seniors Julie Spracklin (Easthampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) and Rachael Ivanicki (Marlboro, NJ / Colts Neck [Bryant]) helped the Monmouth University women's soccer team claim a 2-1 victory from Marist on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.

Ten minutes in, Monmouth secured the early lead when Spracklin capitalized on a penalty kick chance by burying a right-footed shot into the bottom corner. A little more than six minutes later, Ivanicki beat two Marist defenders before poking a shot past Marist goalie Makala Foley to double the Hawks' lead.

The home team countered in the 63rd minute when a throw-in deep in Monmouth territory led to a goal. Juliette Loccisano took the throw on the goal line and played a pass back to Alexa Svensson, who placed a shot into the near-side top corner to make it a 2-1 game.

Monmouth ultimately held on for the 2-1 win in the conference opener for both teams.
