WOMEN'S SOCCER ADVANCES TO MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –  The Monmouth University women's soccer team scored twice in each half and advanced to the finals of the MAAC Tournament with a convincing 4-1 win over Marist on Friday evening at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

Rachelle Ross (Mount Laurel, NJ / Lenape) scored twice and assisted a goal by Madie Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cape May), while Rachael Ivanicki (Colts Neck, NJ / Colts Neck [Bryant] scored the would-be game-winner. Ivanicki's headed goal gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead off a cross by Gibson in the 32nd minute.

Ross' first goal increased Monmouth's lead to 3-0 in the 81st minute, but Marist's Briana Robinson quickly scored three minutes later to cut the deficit to 3-1. Ross tacked on a second marker with less than 20 seconds left to run the final total to 4-1.

- Monmouth advances to the MAAC Championship match for the first time since 2013. The Hawks will host the title game for the first time since 2007.
- The Hawks reached 13 total wins for the fourth consecutive season.
- Monmouth increased its overall unbeaten streak to 11 games, its longest since the 2013 season when it was unbeaten in 14 straight matches.
- The Hawks won their sixth straight home match.
- Monmouth leads the all-time series with Marist 9-0-0. It was the first postseason meeting between the Hawks and Red Foxes.
- Monmouth's Class of 2017 won its 57th game. The 57 wins are the third most by a class in Monmouth history.

 NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Gibson scored the game's first goal and assisted on Ivanicki's header in the 32nd minute. Gibson leads the Hawks with 31 points (11 G, 9 A) in 2016.
- Ross and Alli DeLuca each assisted Gibson's opening goal. Ross now has 24 points on the year (10 G, 4 A).
- Ivanicki increased her season total to six goals. She now has 35 career points (14 G, 7 A).
- Knaub made four saves in goal for Monmouth. Robinson's goal snapped a 414:26 scoreless streak.
- Monmouth scored first for the 15th time in 19 matches.
- Monmouth outshot Marist 17-8, and held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
- It was the 16th time this season Monmouth has held its opposition to less than three corner kicks.

NEXT UP
Monmouth will host the MAAC Championship match at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn on Sunday, Nov. 6 against No. 2 Siena or No. 4 Quinnipiac. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN3 beginning at 3 p.m.
