WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Junior Julie Laszlo (Rotterdam, Netherlands/Rotterdams Montessori Lyceum) scored twice within an eight-minute span in the second half to help lift the Monmouth University field hockey team to a 4-2 win over Cornell, Sunday afternoon on So Sweet A Cat Field. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 9-2 and will enter league play with the program's best non-conference record in their 20-year history.
Monmouth controlled the first half, outshooting the Big Red 7-1, and built a 2-0 lead on goals 32 seconds apart from freshman Josephine van der Hoop (Rotterdam, Netherlands/Wolfert van Borselem) and sophomore Kelly Hanna (Seaville, NJ/Ocean City [Rutgers]). Cornell's (5-5) Katie Carlson scored 4:21 before the break and added another 2:54 into the second half to even the score at 2-2, but Laszlo's goals in the 52nd and 60th minute, both off corner plays, allowed the Hawks to secure the victory.
