BALANCED ATTACK PROPELS FIELD HOCKEY PAST DAVIDSON, 3-1

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Seniors Trish O'Dwyer (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto Beaufort) and Amanda Schoenfeld (West Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) and sophomore Alyssa Ercolino (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) each recorded three points, while freshman Tanja Kloock (Kiel, Germany/Ernst Barlach Gymnasium) posted a victory in her first start in cage as the Monmouth University field hockey team defeated Davidson, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field.

“We have been working on our offense this week and it was finally nice to see it click,” comment head coach Carli Figlio. “To be able to get results from different attacking lines is encouraging as look ahead to two tough opponents next weekend in Fairfield and Cornell.”

Monmouth (3-4) controlled every aspect of the game, outshooting the Wildcats (1-6, 0-1 A-10) 23-7 and earned 17 penalty corner chances compared to the visitor's five. The Blue and White broke the ice in the ninth minute when Ercolino sent a cross to the center of the circle where Schoenfeld swept the ball into the cage for her second goal of the year.

Nearly four minutes later, O'Dwyer, the program's all-time assist leader, collected a ball off the pads of Davidson's goalkeeper, Emily Leytham, and dished over to Ercolino where she deposited her fourth goal of the year into an empty cage. The Hawks capped of their scoring in the 17th minute off a corner play. Ercolino sent the insert to Schoenfeld who collected and sent a pass across the circle to O'Dwyer where she unloaded for her second marker of the season and 37th goal of her career.

Kloock, the third MU goalkeeper to earn a start this season, made three saves in her second appearance of her young career. Leytham made 12 saves for Davidson in defeat.

Monmouth continues its home stand next weekend when it hosts future MAAC Field Hockey member, Fairfield, on Friday, September 26th at 4:00 p.m. before taking on Cornell on Sunday, September 28th at 1:00 p.m.
