EDISON, N.J. –Monmouth University freshman Przemyslaw Filipek (Bedzin, Poland/Second Lo [Silesia]) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week, league officials announced Wednesday. Filipek, who earns his first league accolade since joining the team in January, becomes the second Hawk to claim the player of the week title this season as junior Victor Pugliese (Boulogne, France/CNED [San Diego]) has earned the distinction twice.
Filipek posted a 4-0 mark in both singles and doubles action in a week that saw the Monmouth men's tennis squad stretch its winning streak to eight matches. Filipek, who did not drop a set in singles play, opened his week with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mark Miller of Villanova at No. 2. With a spot start at No. 1 against Wagner, the Poland native cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Christian Grau. Slated back at No. 2 for the weekend's action, the rookie notched a 6-1, 6-4 win over Saint Francis's Tico Rodrigo and 6-2, 6-3 victory over Siena's Peter Collins. Teamed up with Bee Kumthonkittikul (Bangkok, Thailand/Pendleton School), the duo posted four doubles victories, three of which coming at No. 3.
