FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. – Paced by junior Rebecca Gaona's (Howell, N.J./Howell) career-low round of 79, the Monmouth University women's golf team finished second overall at the Fairleigh Dickinson Quad Match, Tuesday afternoon at the par-71 High Mountain Golf Club.
As a team, the Hawks shot 333, 23 shots behind FDU which cruised to the victory, while Wagner trailed in third with a 357. Saint Francis Brooklyn took forth shooting 364.
Gaona's career day left her two shots out of the individual lead as a trio of Knights carded 77 on the afternoon. Faith Garcia (Stamford, Conn./Staples) finished second for the Hawks and led a quartet of freshmen with her 80. Erin DiDonato (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) and Kaitlin Clancy (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West), making her collegiate debut, both registered 87, while Sarah Kokotajlo (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) rounded out the Hawks' card with an 88.
Monmouth returns to the links next Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7, at St. John's Invitational which will be held at The Saint Andrew's Golf Club in Greenhurgh, N.Y.
