JAMES NAMED MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - For a second time this season, Monmouth University freshman guard Josh James (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week, league officials announced on Monday afternoon.

James averaged 9.3 points and 4.0 rebounds, while hitting 10-18 (.556) from the floor and 2-of-3 from three-point range in the Hawks' 2-1 week. In three games off the bench, the freshman averaged 21.3 minutes a game, hauled in 12 rebounds, handed out 14 assists and posted three steals.

At Penn State, the freshman hit for a team-high 12 points, connecting on 4-for-7 from the field, while adding four rebounds and an assist and a steal.

In Monmouth's comeback win over Mississippi Valley State, James went 5-for-7 from the field for 14 points, with four rebounds and four assists. James rounded out his week with two points and four rebounds in a win over North Carolina A&T, but handed out a season-high nine assists, with two steals.

James, who has an assist in all seven games played, ranks third on the team with 9.3 points per game and has a team-high 28 assists.

Monmouth returns to action on Thursday night, when the Hawks host in-state rival Rider University in their first-ever MAAC game. Tip off in the MAC is set for 7:05 p.m., as the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
