WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS IN SEASON OPENER TO MANHATTAN, 5-2

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - In its first event of the 2012-13 season, the Monmouth University women's tennis team fell to visiting Manhattan College, 5-2, Sunday afternoon. Junior Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney) and senior Dana Ferrari (Saddle Brook, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) each scored singles victories for the Blue and White.

The Jaspers swept the doubles point, taking all three matches before Verdiglione, playing second singles, defeated Caitlin Bricketto, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 10-7, to get MU on the board.  Ferrari, at the fourth singles spot, posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Stephanie Tsao for her first victory of the year.  Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) narrowly gave the Hawks their third point of the afternoon, but fell 6-7 (3), 4-6 to Brianna Turano.

Monmouth returns to the courts this Wednesday, September 19th, as it opens up Northeast Conference play against Sacred Heart, beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the MU Tennis Courts.
