PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Freddy Marcinkowski
(Sparta, N.J./Sparta) won at the top singles flight, but the Monmouth
University men's tennis team fell to Bryant, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at
Providence College's indoor courts. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-7 (0-1
NEC) on the season, while Bryant improves to 10-4 (3-0 NEC).
After
falling in the first set, 6-3, Marcinkowski made the adjustment and won the
final two sets convincingly, 6-3, 6-1. But the Hawks lost all three doubles
flights and the remaining singles flights.
Francis
Jedlinski (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) battled Dana Parziale, but fell,
7-5, 7-6 (7) at No. 2 singles. Laurence Heads (Stockton-on-Tees, England/Repton
School) was defeated by Peter Hart Callahan, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3, while Carl
Jedlinski (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) was edged by Ernesto Arguello,
7-5, 7-6 (5), at No. 4. David Sherwood (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) fell
to Juan Gonzalez-Paz, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5, while Jason Rothstein was defeated by
Richard Sipala, 6-3, default.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, when they play
host to Queens College. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
