- Army swept all six singles flights, as well as all three doubles matches as the
Black Knights defeated the Monmouth University men's tennis team, 7-0, Sunday
afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-4 on the season, while Black
Knights improved to 7-6.
Army began the match with 8-0, 8-1 and 8-2 wins at No. 1, 2, and 3 doubles,
respectively, to take the 1-0 lead. David Sherwood (Little Egg Harbor,
N.J./Pinelands) put up the best fight for the Hawks at No. 3 singles, falling
in three sets to Rommel Verano, 6-2, 6-7, 11-9.
Freshmen Carl Jedlinski (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) and Tom Kowalski
(Westfield, N.J./Westfield) also played well in defeat at No. 2 and 6,
respectively. Jedlinski fell to Alex Holland, 6-3, 7-5, while Kowalski pushed
Andrew Clark before falling, 6-4, 6-3.
The Hawks return to action Monday, March 12, when
they travel to Florida to face Bucknell in the first of three matches on Spring
Break.
