ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior David Sherwood
(Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) and freshman Francis Jedlinski (Manalapan,
N.J./Freehold Township) each earned double wins as the Monmouth University men's
tennis team defeated Bucknell, 4-3, Monday afternoon in Orlando, Fla. With the
win, the Hawks improve to 1-4 on the season, while the Bison fall to 2-4.
Jedlinski paired with Laurence Heads (Stockton-on-Tees, England/Repton School)
to earn an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles over Kelly Morque and Josh Katten,
before getting past Octavio Canibe, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Sherwood helped
the Hawks secure the doubles points, pairing with Tom Kowalski (Westfield,
N.J./Westfield) to defeat Kyle Rosen and Scott Bernstein, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
The senior then defeated Morque, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 4 singles.
Freshman
Freddy Marcinkowski (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) also took a 6-1, 6-2, victory over
Gregg Cohenca at No. 1 singles to give the Hawks four points and the victory.
Freshman Carl Jedlinski (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) also battled at No.
3 singles, but fell to Evan Zimmer in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0. Carl Jedlinski
and Marcinkowski also took a tough 9-7 defeat at No. 1 doubles to Cohenca and
Zimmer.
The Hawks return to Spring Break action in
Florida on Tuesday, when they face another Patriot League foe in Colgate. First
serve between Monmouth and the Raiders is scheduled for 8 a.m. in Orlando.
