MILFORD, CONN. - Paced by Kelsi Kavanagh's (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) two-round total of 169, the Monmouth University women's golf team finished Sacred Heart's Fall Classic in sixth place, firing a tournament total of 686, held at the par-72 Great River Golf Club.
Kavanagh shot an opening-round 87 before carding an 82 in the final round, to finish with a share of 17th place. Junior Michelle Rosenhouse (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) posted rounds of 83 and 88 to finish two strokes behind Kavanagh in a tie for 20th, while classmate Macy Raimo (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) registered a two-round total of 172 (85-87). Elizabeth Abbondandolo (Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), who claimed a share of 26th, shot a total of 174 (83-91) followed by Rachel Werner (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West), who rounded out the Hawks' day with a 183. Playing as an individual, Jessica Kavanagh (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) posted a 187 in her first collegiate event.
Penn earned the team title, finishing 17 strokes ahead of Brown, 630-647. Boston captured third with a score of 654, followed by LIU Brooklyn in fourth, which carded a 669, and Hartford in fifth, finishing with a two-day total of 672. The Hawks edged the host Pioneers by 15 strokes, who finished in seventh, while Mount (718), Albany (731), and Holy Cross (754) rounded out the 10-team field.
The Hawks will tee off against Hartford in Middlefield, Connecticut this upcoming Saturday in the final event of the fall season.
