NEW YORK GIANTS SIGN MU'S CHRIS HOGAN

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.- Monmouth wide receiver/cornerback Chris Hogan (Ramapo, N.J./Ramapo/Penn State) has been signed by the New York Giants.

Hogan, who originally signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers but was cut after suffering a preseason ankle injury, played just one year of collegiate football for the Hawks.  Prior to the 2010 season he was a four-year stand out for the Penn State men's lacrosse team.

Hogan impressed scouts at Fordham's Pro Day, where he recorded the fastest times in a number of agility drills.  He was invited for a workout by the Giants last week and signed late Monday afternoon.  Hogan spent time preparing for the NFL Draft at DeFranco's Training in Wyckoff, N.J., where owner Joe DeFranco told The Star Ledger that "Hogan and Brian Cushing (Former USC Trojan and current Houston Texan) are the two best athletes that I've ever trained."

Hogan, who played four seasons of lacrosse at Penn State before coming to Monmouth to finish his eligibility in football, came in as a wide receiver for the Hawks but had to also play defensive back after injuries decimated the position.  At wideout, he provided a big play threat for the Hawks, scoring three touchdowns on his 12 receptions including his first collegiate catch.  Starting with game four, he started every game at cornerback cutting down his reps at wide receiver.  He recorded two interceptions in his first game at cornerback and finished the season with three picks and 28 tackles.
