WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University football players
Ian Simon (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro/Howard) and
Tristan Roberts (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia/Lackawanna C.C.) were named honorable mention at their positions by The College Football Performance Awards.
Simon earns honorable mention defensive linemen of the week after his career day against Wagner. The senior recorded three sacks, eight tackles and 5.5 tackles for a loss, all of which were single game highs for the defensive end. The 6' 3”, 240 lbs Simon finished with a team-high nine sacks and 13.5 tackles for a loss in 2011. Simon's nine sacks are the most in a single season for a Hawk since 2003 (Mike DeFalco).
Roberts was named honorable mention wide receiver after his record-tying day for the Hawks. The junior had his best day as a Hawk, finishing with 12 catches for 165 yards and three touchdowns against the Seahawks. Roberts' 12 catches tied a program record, set by former Hawk Anthony Galella in 1998. His three touchdown receptions, of 31, 25 and 29 yards, was the most for a Hawk receiver since Miles Austin scored four times against Sacred Heart in a 2005 game. His 165 yards is the fifth most for a single game in school history.
