YOST'S HEADER IN 2ND OT LEADS MU TO 2-1 WIN OVER CCSU

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University freshman Carly Yost headed in the game-winner off a corner kick service from sophomore Dana Costello in the 103rd minute in double overtime, to pace the Hawks to a 2-1 Northeast Conference victory over Central Connecticut State on The Great Lawn on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Monmouth earned its 10th win of the season, giving the Hawks double-digit victories for the sixth straight year. Now 10-6 overall, the Hawks improved to 6-2 in league play, and clinched a spot in the 2011 NEC Championships. CCSU, which played its 12th game decided by a goal or less, falls to 4-7-5 overall and 1-5-3 in NEC action.

"We faced adversity conceding a goal with only a few minutes left," stated head coach Krissy Turner. "But we were able to battle back and get the win."

Following a shotless and scoreless first overtime, the Hawks generated back-to-back corner kicks, served by Costello. On the second, the flight of the ball found a streaking Yost at the far six-yard box, who nodded her first career marker for the game-deciding tally at 102:21.

"It was a great service from Dana and a brilliant finish by Carly," added Turner about the decisive score.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute when senior Courtney Snyder notched her team-best tying sixth goal of the season, off a feed from junior Claudia Vazquez.

The Blue Devils knotted the match in the 87th minute when Nikki Kureczka poked in a ball off a CCSU corner kick service from Rachel Cerrone.

Monmouth held a 16-12 advantage in shots in the match, including an 11-4 edge in the second half and overtime sessions. The Hawks, who got the game-winner on the second of consecutive corner kicks in the second overtime, forced CCSU goalkeeper Nikola Deiter to make four saves.

Monmouth freshman goalkeeper Jocelyn McCoy made a career-high nine stops in net for the Hawks, who finish the regular season 6-2 at home.

Monmouth, which has now qualified for 14 Northeast Conference postseasons in program history, returns to action on Friday, October 28th, when the Hawks travel to Fairfield, Connecticut to face Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m.
