PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Monmouth University stands in a 10th place tie out of 19 teams after round one of the Rutgers Invitational, as the Hawks' top three are all within one shot of their career best rounds. Kelsi Kavanagh leads the pack for the Blue and White with her 79, one stroke off a career-best mark, as the Hawks carded a 322 at the par 72, 6,034-yard course, just four shots out of fifth place.
The Rutgers women's golf team is in first place with a 303 team score after the opening round of the Rutgers Invitational, at the Rutgers University Golf Course. The Scarlet Knights lead second place Boston College (305) by two strokes in the 19-team event that is scheduled to conclude with an additional 18 holes on Saturday.
Michelle Rosenhouse, who inked a career-best tying round of 80, stands in 32nd place overall, while Elizabeth Abbondandolo erased a stroke off her her best round, inking an 81.
Rachel Werner (82) and Macy Raimo (88) rounded out the Hawks' fivesome on Friday.
The second and final round begins Saturday with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
