LACROSSE EARNS 15-9 WIN OVER CCSU ON SENIOR DAY

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.-  Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team improved to 7-8 (5-2 NEC) with a 15-9 victory at home against Central Connecticut State (4-8 (0-7) on Sunday afternoon.

The game was a tale of two halves, as Monmouth secured a 10-2 going into halftime.  Monmouth scored 10 straight goals to start the game, with CCSU not getting onto the board until 26tth minute.  In that half of work seniors Ali Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) and Shawn Evans (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) scored three goals apiece. 

MU picked up in the second half where they had left off, rattling off three unanswered goals to take a 13-2 lead before working in subs until the entire starting unit was off the field.  From the 15 minute mark on, Central outscored the Hawks 7-2, with its final goal coming with 3:28 to play.

Five of Monmouth's six seniors registered a point, including defender Kelly Bosco (Gulph Mills, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) who scored her first goal of the season in the second half.  Bosco also had three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the match.  Evans finished with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists, while Pollock had three goals.  Junior Molly O'Brien (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) had a trio of goals in the game.

CCSU's Meaghan McCurry led her squad with three goals, while Lyndsey Mastandrea had a pair of goals in the loss.  The nine goals was the second most allowed by Monmouth against Central Connecticut State all-time (10 goals in 2007).  CCSU goaltender Erin Delancey made 10 saves in the loss.

The Monmouth goaltenders split time in the cage, with starter Kirby Mundorf (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keogh) making four saves and allowing just two goals in the first half.  Freshman Emma Taylor (Liverpool, N.Y./CBA) gave up seven goals while making five stops. 

The win marked the first time all season that every healthy Monmouth player got into the game.   MU outshot CCSU 30-23, including a 19-9 margin in the first half.  The Blue Devils held a 14-11 advantage on draw controls but committed 18 turnovers compared to MU's 14. 

The Hawks, who remained a perfect 11-0 all-time against the Blue Devils, got a win for its six seniors playing in their final regular season games on Kessler Field.  Monmouth finished the regular season with a 6-1 mark at home.

MU will travel to LIU on Friday for a 4 p.m. game against the Blackbirds.
