ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Monmouth University's lacrosse squad (0-3) could not hand Navy (6-0) its first loss of the season Friday night, as the Midshipmen remained perfect on the season with a 17-5 victory.
The Midshipmen outscored Monmouth 9-1 through the first 22 minutes of the game, with the Hawks scoring twice more before the half ended. MU's hopes of coming back against Navy were single-handedly dashed by Danielle Vivonetto, who scored four consecutive goals to start the second frame. Vivonetto, a sophomore, would finish with six goals tying teammate Erin Rawlik (the nation's leading scorer) for the most on the field.
Senior Ali Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) had a goal and an assist to lead Monmouth while Shawn Evans (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), Rachel Fierstein (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East), Megan Brennan (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Carissa Franzi (Fairfield, N.J./West Essex) also scored goals for the Blue & White. Franzi also chipped in three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win.
The teams were even in draw controls, 12-12, but Navy outshot the Hawks 27-15 in the contest.
Monmouth is back in action on Wednesday when they travel back to Maryland to face UMBC.
