FORMER HAWK NALBONE NAMED TO MIAMI DOLPHINS' 53 MAN ROSTER

MIAMI- With a 4 p.m. deadline looming on Saturday to cut down to 53 active players, the Miami Dolphins decided to keep former Monmouth Hawk tight end John Nalbone, making the former Hawk the second MU player in the NFL.

Nalbone, who became the first Hawk to be taken in the NFL Draft last April, signed a four-year contract with the defending AFC East champions.  The Lawrenceville, N.J., native was the 11th tight end selected in the draft, taken with the 161st overall pick in the fifth round.

The Dolphins came into training camp with as many as six tight ends on the roster with Nalbone listed fourth on the depth chart on the team's website.  Questions arose whether the team would keep three or four tight ends on the 53 man roster but in the end the Dolphins ended up keeping both Nalbone and former University of Maryland standout Joey Haynos.

As a senior in 2008, the First Team All-Northeast Conference selection led the Hawks in receptions, yards and touchdowns with 42, 491 and five, respectively.  Nalbone finished his career as a four-time all-conference selection (two-time first team) ended his career with 101 catches for 1,079 yards and nine touchdowns, all Hawk records for tight ends.  He became the second Hawk to be selected to the American Football Coaches Association FCS All-America team.

Nalbone is the second Hawk currently on a 53-man roster in the NFL.  Monmouth wideout Miles Austin is in his fourth season with the Dallas Cowboys and is currently listed second on the depth chart at the right wide receiver position (according to the Dallas Cowboys' website).
