BINGHAMTON SNATCHES 10-9 OVERTIME VICTORY OVER MONMOUTH LACROSSE

VESTAL, N.Y.- Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team fell to 0-5 on the season after suffering a 10-9 overtime loss to Binghamton (2-2) on Friday afternoon.

After trailing for almost the entire game, Binghamton took a 9-8 lead with 1:07 left on a Beth Moore goal.  Twenty seconds later Megan Brennan (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) sent the game into overtime.   With 41 seconds left in the first of two overtimes, it was Moore who buried the eventual game winner for the Bearcats, leaving the Hawks winless through five games in 2009.

Monmouth held a 4-2 advantage at the end of thirty minutes of play, partially due to redshirt freshman Molly O'Brien's (Kennet Square, Pa./Unionville) two goals in the first three minutes of the game.  Ali Pollock's (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) goal at the 18:21 mark of the first half gave MU a 3-0 lead.  Binghamton got back to back goals from Beth Moore and Lis Zuern to cut Monmouth's lead to 3-2 but sophomore Rachel Feirstein (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) tallied a free position goal with 4:12 left on the scoreboard push the margin to 4-2.

Feirstein picked up where she left off in the second period, getting the opening draw and drawing a foul inside the 8m to set up a free position attempt.  The reigning NEC Rookie of the Year beat Bearcat goaltender Lauren Scott on the ensuing attempt, giving Monmouth a 5-2 lead just 54 seconds into the second frame.  The two teams traded goals over the next 14 minutes, with Perry DeWitt (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) scoring twice for the Hawks, giving the Blue & White a 7-4 lead.  Over the next nine minutes Binghamton would outscore MU 4-1, with Brennan scoring the only Hawk goal.  The Bearcats tied the game for the first time since the opening draw with 5:35 to play on Emily Thon's goal.

Binghamton held a 30-23 advantage in shots, with Scott making six saves, including one crucial stop in overtime.  Monica Johnson (Radnor, Pa./Archbishop Caroll) made 10 saves in net for Monmouth.  O'Brien, Pollock, DeWitt and Feirstein each had two goals in the game.  Moore led all scorers with four goals on nine shots.

Monmouth returns home for just the second time all season on Sunday when Villanova visits Kessler Field for a 1 p.m. contest
