WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - In its final regular season home match, the Monmouth University women's soccer team tied a season-high with four goals, as the Hawks posted a 4-1 victory over visiting Quinnipiac on The Great Lawn, on Sunday afternoon.

Ali Kliment's penalty kick goal, and two scores from classmate
Mary Wilks, the Hawks improve to 11-4-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the Northeast Conference. Quinnipiac, which entered the contest tied with the Hawks for second place in the league standings, falls to 6-6-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the NEC.
"We finished our chances today, and that is why we got the win," stated head coach
Krissy Turner, whose side ended the regular season 5-3-1 at home.
Quinnipiac nearly broke through with 29 minutes remaining in the opening stanza, as Jillian Strassner sent a cross in from the left side, to the far post, but Furtuna Velaj's diving header hit the post.
In the 23rd minute, after Monmouth lost the ball in the midfield, Kristina Del Mistro played Strassner wide, but
Lia Fierro collided with her, forcing a penalty kick. On the ensuing attempt, Fierro stoned Fortuna's shot, diving to her left, to maintain the scoreless tie.
With 5:17 remaining until intermission, Monmouth broke through as Kliment scored her fourth goal of the season, connecting on a penalty kick to the right netting. On the preceding play,
Nicole Close played a ball wide to
Kim Malecki, who was taken down in the box for the infraction. Kliment, who tallied her career-best fourth score, improved to 3-for-3 in pks on the year.
The Bobcats hit the post once again with 20 minutes remaining in the match, as Furtuna's corner kick service found Chelsea Smtih, who fired a shot on frame, but hit the right post.
Monmouth countered just three minutes later when
Andrea Lopez carried the ball down the right flank and found Wilks in the box, who notched her sixth score of the season, for the 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats trimmed the lead in half in the 84th minute, Velaj laced a corner kick into the box, which was punched away by Fierro, but Meagan McLoughlin's one touch at the far post was good for the 2-1 score.
At 85:19, Malecki flicked a ball into the box for the Hawks, but a Bobcat defender headed the ball into the QU net, pushing the Monmouth advantage to 3-1.
With 25.3 ticks left,
BrieAnne Nomejko played a ball to Wilks at the top of the box and Wilks laced a shot into the far netting from 20 yards away for the 4-1 lead, upping her team-leading total to seven goals.
Monmouth outshot the Bobcats 13-10 in the match, forcing Elizabeth Cook to make four saves. Fierro made three saves in goal for the Blue and White.
Monmouth returns to action on Friday, October 30, when the Hawks travel to Sacred Heart for a Northeast Conference match in Fairfield Connecticut, at 7:00 p.m.
