MELBOURNE, Fla. ? The Monmouth University men's tennis team was beaten after an afternoon of close play by the Connecticut Huskies 4-3 on Wednesday in Melbourne, Fla. The Hawks also fell in the Sunshine State 9-0 to nationally-ranked #7 Barry University.
The Hawks and the Huskies split singles play. Benjamin Evenden defeating Joe Goldstein in two sets, 6-1 7-6. Tom Corrie won against Ben Schueler 3-6, 6-1, 7-6. Corey Forrest claimed the last victory for the Blue and White, as he beat Andrew Marcus 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Pedro Bruno was defeated by Joey Michaels in three sets by a score of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Vik Gupta fell to Christian Malerba 6-1, 6-4. Tim McLane lost to Tom Cook 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the final singles match.
In doubles play, the Hawks were bested 2-1. Forrest and Gupta picked up the lone win against Cook and Marcus 8-6. The duo of Bruno and McLane lost to Michaels and Malerba 8-6. Evendon and Corrie fell to Goldstein and Schueler 8-5.
The team returns to action Thursday, March 27th, when they travel to take on Villanova at 2:30 p.m.
