WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth senior tight end John Nalbone (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrenceville) has been named to the American Football Coaches Association FCS All-America team, the association announced recently.
Nalbone, who finished his career owning every tight end record in school history, becomes the second MU player to earn AFCA All-American honors with linebacker Joe Sentipal being named after the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
“John has been an important part of the Monmouth football program, both on and off the field over the last five years,” said head coach Kevin Callahan. “To be the second player in school history to be named All-American by the coaches association speaks to the impressive ability and play John has exhibited this season.”
This season the First Team All-Northeast Conference selection led the Hawks in receptions, yards and touchdowns with 42, 491 and five, respectively. The four-time all-conference selection (two-time first team) ended his career with 101 catches for 1,079 yards and nine touchdowns, all Hawk records for tight ends.
Nalbone helped lead the Hawks to a 7-4 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in conference play, in 2008. He was one of two players from the NEC honored, with Albany lineman Rafael Nguti being the other.
