LEWISBURG, Pa. ? The Monmouth University field hockey team dropped an 8-2 decision to Patriot League foe Bucknell on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks, who drop to 0-2 on the season, received two goals from sophomore Kelly Crist (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) in the loss.
Bucknell jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half before Crist added her first goal off a corner. Freshman Morganne Firmstone (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) assisted on the goal for her first collegiate point. The Bison took that 2-1 lead with them into intermission.
Bucknell then rattled off six unanswered goals to begin the second half before Crist scored her second tally of the contest on a hard shot from the top of the circle off an assist from freshman Katie Amundsen (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern), for her first collegiate point.
Melissa Katz (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) made eight saves in goal for the Hawks, before giving way to Megan Smith (Easton, Pa./Easton Area), who played the final three minutes. Bucknell outshot Monmouth 26-7, and also held a 12-6 advantage on penalty corners.
Amanda Faust scored two goals for Bucknell as eight different Bison tallied points. Molly Passarella (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) added a defensive save for Monmouth, the second straight game a Hawk has recorded one.
Monmouth returns to action on Saturday, September 8 when they travel to take on West Chester at 12:00 p.m.
