WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. ? Twenty-five members of the Monmouth University men's and women's track and field teams and the women's basketball team have been honored as 2006-07 Northeast Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll selections, the league recently announced.
The members of the Monmouth women's track and field team, which just won their second NEC Outdoor Championship in three years, are Illiana Blackshear (West Orange, N.J,/West Orange), Christine Fatale (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), Julia Frith (Folsom, N.J./Manchester), Tiffany Hahn (Avoca, Pa./Pittston Area) , Laura Myers (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), Danielle Neukirch (Shamong, N.J./Shawnee), Lindsey Rutter (Delran, N.J./Delran), Melissa Vientos (Matawan, N.J./St. John Vianney), Amanda Zacharkow (Roebling, N.J./Florence) and Nikki Zwartjes (Burlington, N.J./Burlington).
The honorees from the men's track and field team, who won the NEC Indoor Championship for the third straight year and claimed their fourth consecutive outdoor crown this season, are Matt Caporaso (Matawan , N.J./Old Bridge), Bill Doherty (Madison, N.J./Madison), Andrew Giaccone (Toms River, N.J./Manchester), Randy Hadzor (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette), Kyle Hirschklau (Morristown, N.J./Morristown), Dave Martell (Gibbsboro, N.J./Eastern), Brendan McGoldrick (Windsor, Conn./Windsor), Matt Murray (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), Martin Suarez III (Burlington, N.J./Holy Cross), Tim Swartz (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Chris Tanzola (Long Valley, N.J./Mt. Olive).
The women's basketball team, who won 18 games in a season for only the second time since 1987-88 and advanced to the conference tournament semifinals, saw Jennifer Bender (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Tech), Rachel Ferdinand (Califon, N.J./Voorhees), Laura Forbes (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and Lindsey Zegowitz (Damascus, Md./Damascus) honored by the league.
