HAWKS HAND DAVIDSON 14-8 LOSS IN THE SUNSHINE STATE

WEST PALM, Fla.- Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team defeated Davidson 14-8 in the Hawks first game during their spring break trip in West Palm, Fla. on Monday evening.

Freshman Ali Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) started the scoring off, with her goal at 27:04 giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.  Davidson's Becky Horton tied the game up two minutes later but Megan Nutter (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) answered right back to regain the lead.  After a quick Wildcat goal tied the game once again, senior Katie Degen (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) scored on a free position shot to give Monmouth a 3-2 lead, one they would not relinquish.

Ashley Waldman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) tallied the next score to give MU a two-goal margin but Davidson's Haley Cook scored at the 17:36 mark to cut the lead to one.  That goal would be the Wildcat's last until 29 seconds left in the frame, a period in which the Hawks would rattle off three scores, giving the Blue & White a 7-4 halftime lead.

Frosh Megan Brennan (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Degen scored the first two goals of the second half, which was answered with a Davidson goal.  With a 9-5 lead, the Hawks outscored the Wildcats 4-1 over the next 16 minutes to clinch the win.

Degen finished with four goals and two assists, while Waldman had five points on three goals and two helpers.  The senior also had two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a trio of draw controls.  Carolyn Raveia (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) and Pollock finished with three goals and two goals, respectively.

Monica Johnson (Radnor, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) got her third win of the season in net for the Hawks, making 13 saves.  Davidson's Laura Johnson also had 13 saves in the contest.  Monmouth is now 3-1 on the season, while Davidson owns a 0-3 record.

Monmouth returns on Thursday to face La Salle for its final game of the spring break trip.  The Explorers and Hawks will play at 11 a.m.
