ELEVEN GOAL SECOND HALF LIFTS MONMOUTH LAX OVER WAGNER, 18-10

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-  After going into halftime tied at 7-7, Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team earned their first conference win of the season with an 18-10 victory over Wagner on Friday afternoon.

Seniors Carolyn Raveia (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) and Katie Degen (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) started up the scoring with back-to-back goals inside of the first two minutes.  After a Seahawk goal cut the lead to one, Degen scored her second goal of the day which was followed up by a Colleen Burg (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) score and the Blue & White found themselves up 4-1 with just under eight minutes expired.  Wagner tallied two consecutive scores over the next 10 minutes to get to within one but junior Megan Nutter (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and freshman Megan Brennan (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) tallied two goals inside of one minute to give the defending NEC champions a 6-3 lead.

The momentum seemed to swing to the home team as the Seahawks piled on three unanswered goals from the 6:58 mark to the 5:40 mark in the first frame.  Nutter scored her second goal of the game to regain the lead for MU but Wagner's Kelly Blundin scored her third goal of the half as the two teams went into the second half tied at 7-7.

The final 30 minutes of play was a decided one-sided affair as Monmouth opened the first 14 minutes of play by scoring five unanswered goals, including two from Ashley Waldman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional).  Wagner's Jessica Ellis and Cara Gonzalez scored back-to-back goals to get the score to 12-9 but the Hawks' offense was not to be denied as MU scored six goals in six minutes to seal the victory.  Freshman midfielder Ali Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) picked up three goals over that stretch, to cap her career-high four goal day.  Wagner scored the final goal of the game as MU cruised to the 18-10 win.

Pollock and Degen led the Hawks with four goals each, with Degen assisting on another for a total of five points.  Waldman finished with three goals and two assists for five points with Nutter also tallying five points on the day including a perfect 2-for-2 in free position opportunities.  Brennan finished with two goals and an assist for three points while netminder Monica Johnson (Radnor, Pa./Arch Bishop Carroll) had seven saves in the win.  Junior Jessica Piccuito (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex Regional) led MU defensively with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Blundin led Wagner with four goals with Teri Noll and Janine Bright scored two goals each.  Seahawk goaltender Alex Johnston had 13 saves for Wagner, who falls to 1-4 with the loss.

The Hawks, now 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the NEC, continue their trip on Sunday when they travel to play Central Connecticut State at 1 p.m.
