MEN'S TENNIS SELECTED FIFTH IN NEC PRESEASON COACHES POLL

The Monmouth University men's tennis team was selected fifth in the annual Northeast Conference preseason coache's poll.

The Hawks' will challenge to become an upper echelon team in the conference this season with a veteran group returning. New MU coach Michael Cook inherits a talented base from which to work with, including freshman Corey Forrest (Ocala, FL/Trinity Catholic). Forrest already sports an 11-1 singles record, working primarily out of the #5 flight. Junior Ben Evenden (Cresco, PA/Ridgewood, NJ), who led the Hawks with eight wins a year ago, will once again handle the #1 singles spot this spring.

Seeking its fourth straight title, Quinnipiac has been chosen as the preseason favorite to claim the 2007 Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Championship. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. The Bobcats earned five first place votes, just edging out Fairleigh Dickinson, which claimed the remaining four first place nods. Mount St. Mary's was selected third by the coaches, followed in order by Robert Morris, MU, Saint Francis (PA), Sacred Heart, Wagner and St. Francis (NY).
