PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ? The Monmouth University men's tennis team won their first dual match of the season, 5-2 over Drexel on Tuesday afternoon.
Monmouth was led by Pedro Bruno (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Santa Marcelina) at third singles as he defeated Sabyasachi Bose 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Freshman Ian Terpilowski (Mount Macedon, Victoria, Australia/Braemar College) defeated Sanjeev Thakrar 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles. Corey Forrest (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic) topped Ayushya Wadhwan at fifth singles 6-3, 6-4 and Vik Gupta (Princeton, N.J./Princeton Day) won as Gaurav Parikh was forced to retire in the third set after each man won a set.
The Hawks swept the doubles point as the duo of Benjamin Evenden (Cresco, Pa./Ridgewood (N.J.) and Tom Corrie (Herfordshire, Eng./Roundwood Park) won 9-8 (4) at first doubles, Bruno/Terpilowski won 8-2 at second doubles and Forrest/Gupta were 8-2 winners at third doubles.
The Hawks return to action this weekend when they travel to take on Lehigh.
