WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University field hockey team had their three-game Northeast Conference winning streak snapped when they fell to Rider 4-0 in Lawrenceville, N.J. on Friday afternoon. The loss evens up the Hawks' NEC record at 3-3 and drops them to 5-11 overall this year.
The Broncs' Stephanie Walker scored two Rider goals in the first half, and Heather Connelly and Brittany Kennedy tallied the second half scores to give them the 4-0 win. Monmouth was outshot by Rider 22-7 in the game.
The Hawks'
Chelsea Farley (Sykesville, Md./Centennial) made 13 saves in net. Monmouth's offense was led by
Kelly Crist (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) and
Molly Passarella (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) who each fired two shots on goal.
Monmouth is now 3-3 in conference play, one game out of the fourth and final playoff spot. The top four teams qualify for the NEC Tournament.
The Hawks' return to action on Friday, October 27 when they travel to co-NEC leader Lock Haven for a 6:30 p.m. match.
