WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University field hockey team had their three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night as they fell to Lafayette in overtime 2-1 in Easton, Pa. The Hawks' now fall to 5-10, but the non-conference game means Monmouth's three-game Northeast Conference winning streak is still alive.
The host Leopards got on the board first as freshman Amanda Saber put Lafayette up 1-0 in the first half. The Hawks' answered that goal with a score from a freshman of their own as
Kelly Crist (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) took a feed from
Bridget Green (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) and knotted the game at 1-1 before intermission.
The teams went scoreless in the second half and the game went to overtime, where Lafayette's Maggie Condon scored off a corner opportunity to give the Leopards the win.
Chelsea Farley (Sykesville, Md./Centennial) made 12 saves, including eight after intermission, for the Hawks.
Monmouth returns to their NEC schedule when they travel to Rider Friday, October 18 for a 4:00 p.m. match with the Broncs.
