Bonnie Young joins the Monmouth coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2006 season. Young, a former member of the New York Power and All-Big Ten performer at Penn State University, joins the Blue and White after a coaching stint at the University of Rhode Island.
Young's coaching experience reaches past URI, as she tenured with the West Chester United Soccer Club, the Nether Providence Athletic Association and Villa Maria Academy over the past two years. She coached the U-18 and U-12 West Chester United girl's soccer teams in regional championships, while also assisting at Strath Haven and Villa Maria High Schools in Philadelphia.
Young was a four-year player for Penn State, earning all-conference accolades twice, PSU's Defensive MVP twice and first-team All Mid-Atlantic Region on two occasions. While at Penn State, Young was named SoccerBuzz honorable mention All-American in 2001 and was a third-team freshman All-American in 1998. She currently ranks second all-time in the NCAA women's soccer record book with 104 career games played, and registered the first hat trick in Penn State women's soccer history.
Her playing career with the Nittany Lions led her to the WUSA, where she was drafted 14th overall in 2002 by the New York Power, where she was teammates with former Monmouth All-American Christie Rampone. Young has also competed for the New Jersey Wildcats since 2004, winning the W-League Championship in 2005, alongside former Monmouth standout Kate Sands.
In addition to her coaching and playing experience, Young is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, and graduated from Penn State in 2002 with a B.S. in Kinesiology.

As a former professional player, she has a strong understanding of the game of soccer. She is motivated and an up-and-coming young coach."
