Geoff Lanier

Geoff Lanier, a veteran coach and recruiter, was named an assistant coach for the Monmouth University women’s basketball team in the summer of 2023.
 
“Geoff has an extensive coaching background which includes being an integral part of some of the best programs in the country,” said Ginny Boggess, Monmouth head coach. “Our goal is to create an elite basketball experience for our student-athletes at Monmouth and he adds invaluable experience which will immediately elevate our program. We welcome Jeff, his wife Kim and daughter Madison to the NEST.”
 
Lanier, who has over 25 years of experience as a college coach and recruiter joins the Hawks from Loyola University (Md.).
 
Last year, Lanier helped guide the Greyhounds to their first season with 10 or more wins since the 2016-17 campaign. Loyola reached the Patriot League Quarterfinals. 
 
Prior to his stop in Baltimore, Lanier was on the staff at Rutgers University. There he helped the Scarlet Knights make two NCAA Tournament appearances and oversaw a recruiting class that was ranked among the top 10 in the nation by Blue Star Basketball, ESPN and the Big Ten. 
 
Lanier was part of the staff at Penn State University for the 2018-19 campaign. While with the Nittany Lions he helped sign the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation. 
 
He has also been on the staff at the University of Cincinnati where he helped recruit and coach the 2016-17 and 2017-18 AAC Freshman of the Year. Prior to that he was on the staff at Kent State, where he worked with multiple All-MAC honorees.
 
Lanier also spent time on the staff as the recruiting coordinator at Boston College. There he helped the Eagles sign their first high school All-American and coached Carolyn Swords, who went on to be a WNBA draftee. 
 
Lanier held assistant coaching positions at Akron and Ohio. 
 
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Connecticut State in 1993 and a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Washington College. 

Lanier and his wife Kim have a daughter, Madison.
