Alan Frey joined Cait Wetmore’s Monmouth University Women’s Basketball staff as an assistant coach on May 16, 2024.
Frey's first season on the Monmouth sidelines saw Monmouth win 16 games, 10 of them at home, the most home wins for the program since 2011-12. Frey helped coach two All-CAA selections in Damaris Rodriguez (First Team) and Taisha Exanor (Second Team), with Rodriguez also becoming the first Hawk in 23 years to earn All-Metropolitan honors.
Frey spent 18 seasons with the Tulane University’s women’s program where he won 351 total games and was a part of 12 postseason tournaments including a pair of NCAA Tournament berths. Serving as an assistant coach and associate head coach for nearly two decades with the team, Frey has contributed his fair share of dedication to the game of basketball. He specialized in scheduling, recruiting, and offensive and defensive scheme implementation over the years in New Orleans.
Frey was a member of 10 Tulane teams that appeared in the WNIT and most recently appeared in back-to-back WNITs in 2022 and 2023. Under Frey’s guidance, Tulane made the Third Round three times in a five-year span and made eight consecutive postseason appearances from 2010-2017. The Green Wave beat 25 high-major schools during Frey’s tenure with nine 20-win seasons.
Frey graduated from the University of New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in 1988. Prior to joining a NCAA Division I coaching staff, he worked in fundraising and financial operations, as well as spending 15 years with the Kenner Angles Basketball Club on the AAU Girls’ Basketball scene. He led his program to five National Championships, 12 Final Fours, and 15 State Championships.
