To Contact Coach Slater:
sslater@monmouth.eduStacy Slater is in her third season as a member of Monmouth Softball?s coaching staff. She is in charge of the Hawks? pitchers and scouting reports. Slater oversees every aspect of pitcher training, from live coaching to workout construction to video analysis and she provides live batting practice for the Hawks hitters as well.
Last season, Coach Slater guided the Hawks pitching staff to an overall 29-20 record with a team ERA of 3.59. The trio of Angela Rand, Heather Gordon and Danielle Ellement (all juniors in 2006) combined for 24 complete games and threw four shutouts in 2005. She is also eager to further develop the staff?s first newcomer in three years in pitcher Kristine Sawlsville.
In 2004, Slater took a one-year hiatus from coaching to pursue other career opportunities. During her year away from Monmouth, Slater worked numerous area pitching camps and clinics, including the Monmouth University 2004 summer pitching camp. She was also in charge of all softball pitching instruction for Starting Lineup, a company specializing in field hockey and softball development in central New Jersey.
Monmouth represents the first collegiate coaching job for Slater, who arrived in West Long Branch after coaching in spring 2002 at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, Maryland. Slater also served as a private pitching coach in Middletown, N.J. in 1999 and 2000 and has worked numerous camps including the Nike Softball Camp in Salisbury and Shooting Star Softball Clinic in Wall, N.J.
Slater enjoyed a stellar playing career at Salisbury (Md.) University. In her two seasons with the Seagulls, Slater posted a 24-7 record and led Salisbury to two Capital Athletic Conference titles and a pair of NCAA Division III runner-up finishes. In 2001 she was tabbed to the All-NCAA Division III Tournament team and in 2000 she pitched a perfect game to lead the team to the tournament. She logged a 12-5 record with a 1.65 earned-run average in her senior season and a 12-2 mark with a 1.09 ERA as a junior.
A local product, Slater enjoyed a prolific career at nearby Middletown (N.J.) South High School. During her three seasons on the varsity squad, she posted a 44-4 record with 254 strikeouts and just 53 walks. She earned All-Shore honors on three occasions, including first-team recognition as a senior when she posted a 17-3 record with a 0.76 ERA.
