Monmouth University Head Softball Coach Shannon Salsburg announced the addition of Jim Gleason as Assistant Coach in February 2021. For nine years, Gleason was a starting shortstop for the nationally-ranked New Jersey Bulls of the USSSA.
“I am thrilled to add Jim to our coaching staff,” said Salsburg. “Jim is a veteran coach and former men's player with a wealth of knowledge. While Jim primarily will work with our pitchers, I look forward to his input in the other aspects of the game. I am excited to have him and look forward to his contributions now and in the years to come.”
Gleason helped lead the Hawks to 11 wins in 2022 including a shutout victory over ACC opponent North Carolina. He helped guide the team to six wins in the MAAC and sent out the seniors with a sweep over Quinnipiac on Senior Day. Billie Kerwood earned a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie Team, pitching to a 3.71 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 139.2 total innings including a 2.24 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP in 68.2 MAAC innings. She racked up 135 strikeouts which was third-most in the MAAC and seventh all-time on the Monmouth single-season strikeouts list. Kylie Gletow tossed 155.2 innings and registered a 4.32 overall ERA and a 4.11 conference ERA.
In 2021, Gleason helped lead Monmouth to its third consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship after compiling a 25-7 (25-7 MAAC) record. He helped guide Alyssa Irons to another stellar season, including a 15-5 record with a 1.62 ERA and another All-MAAC First Team honor. Sophomore Kylie Gletow went 10-4 on the season with a 3.15 ERA.
For the last four years, Gleason was an assistant coach at Brookdale Community College. In 2019, he helped elevate the program to a ranking of third in the nation. In addition, the team won a Region 19 Championship.
Other experience includes North Jersey Outlaws U18 Head Coach, Softball Coordinator at University of Athletic Performance Center, and Hazlet Hawks Travel Organization Director.
Since 2016, Gleason has been the President and Owner of Gleason Softball. As the lead, he developed training classes and clinics as well as advertised, procured, organized and scheduled training.
