Wyatt Hunt hit a grand slam to back seven strong innings from
Brendan Kenneally as the Monmouth University baseball team beat Northeastern University, 5-4 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday.

Northeastern used a pair of doubles in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead in the contest.Â

The Hawks answered in a big way in their half of the frame. A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases with two outs.
Wyatt Hunt launched a home run over the right field fence that gave the home team a 4-1 lead.Â

Monmouth added to its lead in the bottom of the third, making it a 5-1 game.
Nick Lovarco led off with a single and came around to score on
RJ Mustaro's two-out single.Â

Northeastern scored a run in the top of the sixth and made it a 5-2 game.

The Hawks had a chance to add to their lead in the seventh with three walks but Northeastern escaped the inning with no damage.

Northeastern scored two in the top of the ninth and cut the lead to 5-4 with the tying run was on first.
Jake Danyluk entered the game for the Hawks and was able to get a foul out to
Simmi Whitehill to secure the 5-4 win.

Notes
- The win over Northeastern was the second this season and third in the all-time series. It was Monmouth's first win over the Huskies at home.
- The victory gave Monmouth 25 wins on the season. It is the 18th time under head coach Dean Ehehalt that the Hawks have won at least 25 games in a season.
- The win also gave Head Coach Dean Ehehalt his 840th victory at Monmouth.
- Wyatt Hunt hit the 49th home run of the season for the Hawks. It's the most home runs in a single-season since the 2022 team hit 56.
- Hunt had two base hits in the game and now has a team-best 19 multi-hit games this season.Â
- Simmi Whitehill was hit by a pitch in the game. It was the 80th time this season the Hawks have been hit by a pitch.
- Colin Ruddy made just his second appearance of the season and first since Feb. 14 and threw a scoreless eighth. It was the first time pitching at home for Ruddy since May 12, 2024.
- Brendan Kenneally started for the Hawks and picked up his fourth win of the season. He tossed a career-best seven innings and allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out two.
- Jake Danyluk got the final out in the ninth to secure his third save of the season.Â
