WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University baseball team battled for a 6-5 win over Towson University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday afternoon.Â

The Hawks stretched their win streak to three straight games and picked up their 13th CAA win of the season.Â

Towson scored first in this contest with an RBI groundout in the first inning.Â

The Hawks tied things up in the bottom of the fourth.
Chris Walsh led off with a single and eventually came home on a sac fly from
RJ Mustaro.Â

Towson responded with a run in the top of the fifth and led 2-1.

The Hawks tied things up in the bottom of the sixth as
Brendan Buecker had a bunt base hit that scored
Simmi Whitehill. Later in the frame, Monmouth took a 3-2 lead on
Jake Howlett's RBI single.

Monmouth pushed its lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh as Buecker's single scored a pair.Â

Walsh's RBI double in the eighth extended Monmouth's advantage to 6-2.Â

Towson scored three runs with two outs in the top of the ninth and cut the Monmouth lead to 6-5. However,
Austin Beard was able to get a fly out and secure the win for the Hawks.

Notes
- Monmouth picked up its 13th CAA victory of the season. It's the most conference wins for a Hawks squad since the 2021 team won 22 MAAC games.
- The Hawks won their fifth straight over Towson this season. Monmouth extended its overall win streak versus the Tigers to seven straight, dating back to the 2025 season.
- Monmouth has now won five of its six CAA series this season.Â
- Simmi Whitehill pushed his reached base safely streak to 31 straight games with a single in the second inning.
- Chris Walsh stretched his reached base safely streak to 25 straight games with his single in the fourth inning.
- Brendan Buecker led the Hawks and matched his career-high with three RBIs on the day. It was his second three RBI game of the season, both have come against Towson.
- The Hawks had five stolen bases in the game. It was the seventh time this season the Hawks have recoded five or more steals in a game.Â
- Alec Couture earned the win after going a season-high seven innings and allowing two runs, one of which was earned with five strikeouts. He is now tied for the team-lead with three wins this season.
