Rivera-Torres Honored as CAA Releases End-Of-Year Awards

RICHMOND, VA. – After powering the Monmouth University men's basketball team, junior guard Jason Rivera-Torres was honored as the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) announced its end of the year awards voted on by the league's head coaches.
 
Rivera-Torres received Second Team All-CAA and All-Defensive Team honors. He is the first Hawk to receive second team accolades from the CAA since the Hawks joined the league. He joins Jaret Valencia as the only Hawks to be named to the CAA All-Defensive Team.
 
Rivera-Torres is the only Hawk to start all 31 games. He is averaging 15.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game. 
 
Rivera-Torres ranks among the top 10 in the CAA for scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage (.395), free throw percentage (.833), blocks (1.2), steals and minutes (35.4).
 
Rivera-Torres has scored 20+ points in nine games this year and had a career-high 30 points at Hofstra. He was extremely effective from the foul line and has three games this season in which he has hit 10 or more free throws. He has eight double-doubles to his credit. 
 
Rivera-Torres has at least one steal in 26 games this year and has seven games with four or more steals. He dished out a season-high six assists against Campbell and has 12 games with four or more assists. 
 
Rivera-Torres' 491 points ranks 19th in single-season history at Monmouth. His 253 rebounds ranks fourth in single-season history and his 62 steals are tied for seventh in single-season history at Monmouth. 

Rivera-Torres and the rest of the No. 4 Hawks await their CAA quarterfinal opponent. Game time is set for Sunday, Mar. 8 at 2:30 p.m.
