Late Runs Power Hawks Over Elon in Road Test

ELON, N.C. – The Monmouth University baseball team scored three times in the final two innings and claimed a 6-3 road win at Elon University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Friday afternoon.

The first three innings belonged to the pitchers as the game remained scoreless.

The Hawks broke through in the top of the fourth. Chris Walsh drew a lead-off walk and moved to third with one out. Will Fahey's single to the shortstop plated Walsh with the game's first run. RJ Mustaro's double scored Nick Lovarco and made it a 2-0 game.

The Hawks went back on top, 3-2 in the top of the sixth. Fahey singled and stole second and third with one out. Colin Richter then lifted a sac fly to left that plated Fahey.

A pair of base hits to start the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 3-3.

In the top of the eighth Nick Lovarco drew a leadoff walk. A sacrifice bunt and a pair of walks loaded the bases. Richter's fly ball to deep center scored Lovarco and gave the visitors a 4-3 lead.

After a scoreless bottom of the eighth, the Hawks added on in the top of the ninth. Walsh scored on Simmi Whitehill's base hit. Whitehill later scored on a wild pitch that made it 6-3 in favor of the Hawks.
