Monmouth Softball Powers Past Hofstra 13–6 to Win Series Finale

UNION, NJ .Monmouth softball defeated Hofstra 13–6 in the final game of a three-game series Sunday at Cougar Softball Field.

Monmouth jumped out to a 5–0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Kylee McLain got things started with a two-run home run, and Gianna Stern followed with a three-run homer.

The home run barrage continued when Mackenzie Bloss added a solo shot to give the Hawks a 6–0 advantage.

The Pride got on the board in the fourth inning with a three-run home run to cut into the deficit. However, Monmouth responded in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs. McLain drew a walk, and after an error, Claire Picone came home to score. A fielder's choice later in the inning gave the Hawks an 8–3 lead.

Hofstra added three runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull within two. But the Hawks' offense continued to surge, scoring five more runs while holding the Pride scoreless the rest of the way to secure the 13–6 victory.

Monmouth tied an inning-high five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Dominique Lopez made it 9–6 with a single that sent Gianna Scotti home. Ella Stevinson followed with a single that brought Lopez home to make it 10–6. Bloss then singled to send Stevinson home. Tessa Thompson capped the scoring with a two-run home run to make it 13–6.

  • Monmouth hit 11 runs while the Pride hit seven 
  • Alissa Eimont earned the start in the circle for the Hawks, facing 25 batters striking out one
  • Izzy Bonacci came in in relief for the Hawks, also recording a strikeout while facing seven batters
