WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women's lacrosse team erupted for six first-quarter goals and never looked back as the Hawks defeated Sacred Heart, 15–5, on Wednesday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.
Seven different Hawks found the back of the net in the victory while junior netminder
Katie Sullivan made 10 saves, becoming the fifth keeper in program history to eclipse 400 saves as Monmouth improved to 6–2 on the season.
Three players led the scoring with hat tricks.
Marlaina Grimm,
Shea Berigan and
Olivia Castaldo each tallied three goals, while
Brooke Lacey and
Grace Curtin added two apiece.
Allyson Ryan and
Sophia Lymberis also scored for the Hawks.
Lauren Rismani paced the offense with four assists, while Berigan and Curtin each recorded two helpers. In goal, Sulivan and
Gia Mitchell combined for 13 saves while limiting Sacred Heart to just five goals on 27 shots.
Monmouth controlled the game from the opening draw, scoring six times in the first quarter while holding Sacred Heart scoreless to take a commanding early lead. The Hawks extended the advantage in the second period, outscoring the Pioneers 4–3 to carry a 10–3 lead into halftime.
After the break, Monmouth continued to build momentum. The Hawks netted five unanswered goals in the third quarter to stretch the margin to 15–3 heading into the final frame. Sacred Heart scored twice in the fourth, but the outcome was well in hand as the Hawks were able to run out the clock on their sixth victory of the season.
Monmouth finished with a 38–27 edge in shots and dominated the draw circle, winning 17 draw controls compared to five for Sacred Heart. The Hawks also collected 20 ground balls and forced 16 Pioneer turnovers in the win.
Notes
- Katie Sullivan becomes the first Monmouth goalkeeper to reach 400 career saves since Riley Brager in 2019. The junior made seven stops on Wednesday and allowed just four goals.
- Sulivan's 63.6 percent save rate marked the third game in a row and sixth game of the year her save percentage was over 50.
- Shea Berigan had three goals and two assists, recording her fifth hat trick of the season and her third game in 2026 with at least five points
- Berigan has a team-best 20 goals and has multiple scores in seven of eight games this year.
- Lauren Rismani, who entered today's game fourth in the country with 25 assists, had four helpers, bringing her point total to a team-best 43 on the season. The graduate student has at least two assists in every game.
- Marlaina Grimm picked up her second hat trick of the season, scoring three goals. The freshman has five scores in her last two games and 10 goals on the season through eight games.
- Freshman Olivia Castaldo set a new career-best with three goals, giving her scores in three straight games. She is one of seven Hawks with at least seven scores in 2026.
- Grace Curtin scored a pair of goals and dished two assists, notching her second performance of the year with at least four points. Curtin, who already set a new career-high in goals, has scored in five of her last six games and has multiple goals in five contests.
- Brooke Lacey was credited with two goals, giving her 10 on the season
- Sophia Lymberis scored a goal, finding the back of the net for the 11th time in her last 12 games.
- Allyson Ryan recorded a goal, giving her scores in three of her last four appearances.
- Monmouth had 17 draw controls, led by Sophia Ianno with seven. The Pioneers won just five DCs
- The Hawks outshot Sacred Heart, 38-27.
- With the victory, Monmouth improves to 6-2 for the first time since 2023 and for the third time since 2020.
- The Hawks have won nine in a row against Sacred Heart and are undefeated against the Pioneers since 2011.
