WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth women's lacrosse team dropped its second game of the season, falling to Lafayette, 10-7, on Sunday in West Long Branch.
The Hawks (4-2, 0-0 CAA) took an early 4-0 first-quarter lead, but the Leopards outscored Monmouth, 10-3, the rest of the way, earning the victory in the first meeting between the two schools since 2016.
Katie Sullivan starred for the Hawks in net, stopping 16 of the 26 shots she faced and keeping the Leopards off the board in the first and fourth quarters.
Lauren Rismani, who entered Sunday's contest fourth in the country with 20 assists, added four points on two goals and two helpers.
Shea Berigan tallied her fourth hat trick of the season.
Olivia Castaldo and
Brooke Lacey each scored a goal for Monmouth in the loss.
Castaldo found the back of the net less than a minute into the game, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead on the first possession of the game. Six minutes later,
Marlaina Grimm found Lacey on the doorstep for a 2-0 lead. Berigan and Rismani netted goals in the final four minutes of the quarter, giving the Hawks a 4-0 edge after 15 minutes.
After Lafayette broke through early in the second, Berigan responded with a free-position score to reclaim the four-goal lead. The Leopards finished the half on a 5-0 run to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.
Rismani leveled the score at six 90 seconds into the third period, but the Hawks would not find twine again until the opening minute of the fourth, finding themselves in a 10-7 hole after four consecutive Lafayette scores.

- Lauren Rismani had two assists and two goals, giving her a team-best 32 points and 21 assists along with 11 goals.
- Rismani has at least three points and two assists in every game this season. She has multiple goals in four outings.
- Shea Berigan tallied her fourth hat trick of the season. She has a team best 16 goals this season.
- Berigan has scored on 16 of her 33 shot attempts this season.
- Katie Sullivan made 16 saves in net, her most in a game this season. It was the junior netminder's third performance this season with at least 13 stops and her fourth game with a save percentage above 50.
- Olivia Castaldo scored a goal, her third of the season. The freshman has six points on the year.
- All three of Castaldo's goals have come at home.
- Marlaina Grimm picked up an assist, giving the freshman 10 points this season on seven goals and three helpers
- Sophia Ianno had a team-high three draw controls, giving her 15 for the season.
- Gen Mullervy, Sullivan and Castaldo each picked up three groundballs.
