WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Women's Lacrosse scored eight first-quarter goals and never looked back in a 17-7 win over Youngstown State on Sunday morning at Kessler Stadium.
The Hawks (4-1) controlled the game from the opening draw, outshooting the Penguins 36-19 and winning the draw control battle 16-9. Monmouth also held a 25-17 advantage in ground balls and converted three of five free-position attempts.
Lauren Rismani led the offense with a nine-point performance, totaling three goals and six assists.
Grace Curtin added three goals and two assists, while
Allyson Ryan recorded a hat trick.
Shea Berigan finished with two goals and two assists as Monmouth placed eight different players in the scoring column.
Rismani opened the scoring at the. 14:06 mark of the first quarter, and the Hawks surged to an 8-1 lead by the end of the period. Goals from Malaina Grimm, Berigan, Curtin, and
Paige Kidd highlighted a six-goal run in a span of less than five minutes.
Youngstown State (0-4) briefly cut into the deficit in the second quarter, but Monmouth responded with goals from the Sophia duo of Lymberis and Ianno to carry a 10-3 advantage into halftime.
The Hawks extended the lead in the third, with Rismani converting a free-position opportunity and Berigan adding her second goal to make it 12-4. Monmouth sealed the victory in the fourth quarter, scoring five times in the final six minutes, including back-to-back goals from Ryan and a late tally from Curtin.
Katie Sullivan earned the win in goal, making four saves in a full 60 minutes of action. Monmouth finished 15-for-16 on clears and forced six turnovers while limiting Youngstown State to just one free-position.
