Gamble, Dibula Combine For 41 points as Monmouth Tops Hampton

HAMPTON,  Va.  — Monmouth women's basketball delivered a strong road performance on Sunday afternoon, defeating Hampton 64-57 at the Convocation Center. 

After trailing 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Hawks responded with a dominant second period, outscoring Hampton 22-5. 

Monmouth shot 43.8 percent from the field in the second quarter, knocking down a quarter-high four three-pointers, highlighted by back-to-back triples from Gigi Gamble that fueled a 12-2 run. The Hawks forced multiple turnovers and converted them into transition opportunities, taking a 35-20 lead into halftime.

Gigi Gamble led all scorers with 21 points, adding seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists in a complete 40-minute effort.

Divine Dibula continued her efficient play with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting and a 6-of-7 mark from the free-throw line. Alexis Andrews added 15 points, including three three-pointers, and Madalena Amaro controlled the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds to anchor Monmouth's 41-37 advantage on the boards.

Monmouth pushed its lead to as many as 21 points midway through the third quarter behind strong interior play and second-chance points. Although Hampton mounted a third-quarter surge, shooting over 53 percent in the frame and trimming the deficit to single digits in the fourth, the Hawks stayed composed down the stretch
