Monmouth Improves to 3-0 With 13-6 Victory Over Wagner

The Hawks scored 10 straight goals and outscored the Seahawks 10-1 after the first quarter

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.  – The Monmouth University women's lacrosse team allowed just one goal after the first quarter and defeated Wagner, 13-6, on Friday morning at Hameline Field. The Hawks scored 10 straight goals during that run to turn a two-goal deficit into a commanding lead.

Wagner jumped out to an early 5-3 advantage late in the first quarter, capitalizing on free-position chances and draw control. Brooke Lacey kept Monmouth within striking distance early, scoring twice in the opening period, while Shea Berigan added a goal midway through the frame.

The momentum flipped in the second quarter. Sophia Lymberis scored twice to erase the deficit, and Lacey completed her hat trick with 3:23 remaining to give the Hawks their first lead at 6-5. Grace Curtin followed with a man-up free-position goal, and Lymberis struck again before Curtin capped the half with a man-down goal with 11 seconds remaining, sending Monmouth into halftime up 9-5.

Monmouth continued to pour it on in the third. Allyson Ryan and Berigan scored early in the period, with Berigan's tally coming off a feed from Lymberis to push the lead to 11-5. The Hawks' defense locked in, holding Wagner scoreless through the third while limiting quality looks.

Lauren Rismani opened the fourth-quarter scoring with an unassisted goal, and Berigan added her third of the day at 9:30 to extend the lead to 13-5. Wagner added a late goal, but the Hawks had already done enough to finish off a 13-6 victory.
