WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –
Sean Cadigan's first goal of the season helped the Monmouth University men's soccer team secure a hard-fought 1-1 tie with Northeastern University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action on Saturday night.Â
Monmouth held a 14-10 advantage in shots in the contest, but the Huskies had a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.
Herman Johnsen made three of the match's four saves to help the Hawks earn a point.
Johnsen was called on early for the Hawks as Kortay Koc fired a shot on goal at the 6:01 mark but Johnsen made a sliding save.
Monmouth got the offense going as the Hawks fired off four shots in an eight-minute span.
Leo Zonta tried a shot to the bottom right that Brady Elmblad was able to get a hand on and
Jessy Bichler had a pair of shots that went just wide.

Back-to-back saves from Johnsen with just under 15 minutes to play in the first half kept things knotted at 0-0.
The Hawks had one more chance with just over five minutes to go in the period, but Zonta's shot slipped just wide left.
The two sides went into the break tied at 0-0.
The Hawks came out pressing to start the second half. After
Raul Garcia's shot was blocked, the Hawks had a chance on a corner kick.
Jessy Bichler put the ball in play and after
Damian Taraska's initial shot was blocked, the ball settled by Cadigan. He put one in the top left-hand corner for the 1-0 lead.
The two teams continued to trade shots over the next several minutes.Â
Northeastern was able to get the equalizer at 66:17 as Will Schmidt made a long run down the left-hand side of the field and passed it Bryce Flowers, who sent a shot into the right-hand corner of the goal.
The defenses locked down after that as the match saw just a combined three shots over the final 20+ minutes of the contest.Â
The contest ended in a hard-fought 1-1 tie.
Johnsen finished with three saves for the Hawks and has now held three of his last four opponents to one goal or less. Brady Elmblad made one save for Northeastern.Â
Cadigan's goal was his first of the season and second of his month career. Taraska and Bichler each picked up their first points of the season with the assists on the goal.

Monmouth returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 when the Hawks travel to Hofstra for a 2 p.m. match.
