Monmouth Wraps Up Non-Conference Play With 1-1 Draw at Columbia

NEW YORK – The Monmouth women's soccer team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its 2025 schedule with a 1-1 draw at Columbia on Sunday.

Evangeline Perdomo scored the lone goal for the Hawks, the first of her freshman campaign, while the Hawks' defense continued to shine, allowing just one score. Over the last five games, MOmouth has conceded just twice.

The first quarter of an hour was played primarily in the midfield, with the first shot of the game coming off the foot of Emily De Almeida in the 18th minute. The Hawks had another scoring chance minutes later when Ashley Lavrich was sprung free on the right side but was whited offside.

Late in the half, Lindsey Husic sent in an in-swinging corner kick in the direction of a wide-open Chloe Messer, but Lions' keeper Samantha Mahoney came off her line and deflected it out of play, keeping the Hawks off the board. Each time was able to get off two attempts in the opening 45 minutes, none of which were on target.

The Hawks went on the offense to start the second frame and broke through in the 57th minute, when Perdomo forced a turnover and ripped a shot from outside the box that settled into the upper-left corner, giving Monmouth a 1-0 lead.

With just under 24 minutes to play, the Hawks had a prime chance to double their lead. Summer Reimet took the ball in the defending third and started the transition play, finding Lavrich, who was behind the Lions' defensive line. The sophomore took one touch into the box, but before she could get a shot off, Mahoney came off her line and was able to collect the ball and thwart the opportunity. Two minutes later, Marie Bogue sent a cross in Riemet's direction, but the reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Week watched the ball sail inches out of the reach of her outstretched left foot.

The Lions' Mya Beltran brought Columbia back even in the 77th minute, putting a shot on net that was blocked, getting her own rebound, and getting a shot past Miller.

In the 80th minute, Alex Dreihaup sent a cross into the box, but Reimet's header sailed about a foot over the bar. With just over six minutes left on the clock, Miller made an outstanding stop, diving to her right and sending a point-blank shot over the bar to keep the game tied. On the ensuing corner, the Hawks' netminder was able to assert herself and make a clean catch in traffic on the cross, helping to clear the danger.

She made another impressive stop in the 87th minute, making a catch on a shot-range shot. Neither team was able to break through in the final minutes, giving Monmouth its first

Head Coach Kylee Flynn Postgame:

"Today's match was a great last test for us before heading into conference play. We struggled to connect and keep possession in the first half, which limited our attack. The second half was a lot better as we made quality decisions on the ball and were able to create many chances going forward. I am proud of how much we have grown over the last few weeks and looking forward to our conference opener this Thursday."
